The Avon New Cut may have started as a man-made waterway but it was officially granted Local Nature Reserve (LNR) status in 2015. FrANC had long campaigned for this such as through its involvement in Wild City between 2011 and 2013 – a Bristol-wide project aiming to encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors.
As part of the process of LNR designation, a management plan for the area had to be drawn up. With contributions and assistance from FrANC, Bristol City Council published a five year Management Plan for the Avon New Cut in 2014. This sets out how the New Cut will be managed in the future by various departments within the city council and partner organisations such as FrANC for the enhancement of wildlife, educational use and public enjoyment.
