The Banana Bridge closed on Monday 13th May for extensive restoration works which could take up to 18 months. The bridge is Grade II-listed and its distinctive colour and shape have earned it the nickname ‘Banana Bridge’. Its official title is actually Langton Street Bridge. On the New Cut, Vauxhall Bridge is currently also closed while the repairs of Gaol Ferry Bridge are complete.
The restoration, likely to cost up to £2 million, is being funded by the Department for Transport’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.
